Schools within schools, or IT Academies, provide a new way to organize programs of study. These models include the following strategies:
- School-within-a-school programs whose goal is to motivate students to participate in activities that lead to graduation with a high school diploma
- Career-oriented programs with the direct involvement of local employers to provide students with a major step toward developing the skills employers need. Work-based learning experiences, mentoring and job shadowing are examples of activities involving local employers.
- Academically and technically focused programs for either entrance to college and/or careers in IT fields. These careers are the ones in demand for the 21 st century.
